 Alight

Luckley's Young Enterprise company 'Alight' won the prize for 'Innovation' at this year's awards ceremony. Alight’s main products have included a range of Christmas decorations and greetings cards made entirely by company members using recycled materials.  he girls also held a social event within school as an additional fundraiser.

Alight's Managing Director Nadine Harris said " Alight has had a very successful year.  We have pooled our talents to create unique, innovative products, which have sold well inside and outside school, and we have worked effectively as a team to make sure that our shareholders will be rewarded at the end of the year.  Our enthusiasm for our environmentally-friendly products and our belief in our company have helped us to develop our problem-solving skills. Everyone involved in Alight has really progressed in learning the skills needed to make a business successful.   Developing, marketing and selling a handmade recycled product hasn’t been easy, but in doing so we have learnt to overcome many problems. As individuals we have learned many skills, such as marketing and selling - we were informative and convincing when selling the products. As a team we have been extremely entrepreneurial and innovative since the products we have designed have been completely unique and sold without the benefit of brand loyalty.  We are pleased with the profits we have made to date and our shareholders should receive a good dividend when the company is liquidated.  We believe our success has also been because as a whole everyone has been committed to their jobs and helped each other out. We have made ethical products that we are proud of and can believe in.  We have learnt that good team work will get the job done faster with the highest quality required. We have also learned a great deal from our advisor, Christina."

Fusion

Sixth Form Young Enterprise Students celebrated their success as double award-winning business women, following their triumph at the Young Enterprise South East Berkshire Area Finals on Thursday 18th March.

The Luckley Company, Fusion, consisting of 22 students won the South East Berkshire Area Cup for Best Company and another cup for Best Company Report. Luckley was competing against other schools such as Ranelagh and St George's.

The company decide to design two products, both celebrating the merger of Luckley and Oakfield Schools 50 years ago; a recipe book created by contributions from the school community and personalised hooded sweatshirts.

The cups were awarded by Mary Flavelle, a successful Berkshire entrepreneur, who was chair of the judging panel.  Fusion was praised by Mary for their financial acumen.  She explained that in the current financial climate it was imperative that firms not only looked at the needs of their specific market, but kept an eye on their costs too, and the judges had been very impressed that Fusion had effective systems in place to monitor profit margins, budgets and costs.

Mrs Linda Stephens, Head of Business Studies commented, ‘The students have worked exceptionally hard to launch and produce two products. Meeting the initial deadline was extremely onerous, with a series of short timescales.  Managing this project along side their studies and other commitments is testament to their excellent team work and time management. We are delighted with their success.’
