Welcome to Luckley-Oakfield from the Headmistress

Luckley-Oakfield is a thriving independent all-girls' day and boarding school, based in Wokingham, Berkshire, just 40 minutes from London.  We are a school with much to offer and we would welcome the opportunity to show you and your daughter what makes us so special.

This is an exciting time to be the  Headmistress of Luckley-Oakfield. One of the joys of teaching is seeing pupils grow from little girls, starting secondary school in Year 7, into confident, interesting and fun-loving young women. Our school values each girl for her unique talents and abilities which is reflected in the learning opportunities available at Luckley.  We offer an extensive range of subjects at GCSE and A-Level so that each girl has access to a curriculum in which she can fulfil her potential, nurture interests and develop aptitude.  At the same time we guide girls into choices that ensure that all opportunities for progression are kept open. Beyond the classroom we have a wide range of different activities available .

At our last Speech Day, Major General Tim Cross CBE stated that “the result of education is character”. So, when choosing a school, parents should consider “What sort of school environment will nurture my child so that she develops good character?”  He went on to say: “Character is difficult to define; it can't be legislated or bought. It is what defines great individuals, great wines or great periods of history”.

Character has to have a firm foundation. As a Christian, I believe that this is not gained through academic qualification. All the greats of the Bible displayed character and those who faced life and death realities did what was right.

At Luckley, our core purpose defines who we are and what we aim to enable our pupils to become. "Luckley-Oakfield is built on the Christian foundations of love and service.  We enable our students to thrive in a secure and encouraging environment, thereby equipping each girl to be resourceful and resilient - ready to take on life's many challenges and opportunities.

Put simply, we equip our pupils to become ‘women of character’. While academic qualifications remain important, it is the character of each individual that will define their lives, and by extension, our society.

Today, young people are growing up in an increasingly competitive world with particular focus on how education is preparing them for the world of work and a healthy lifestyle.  We are responding to this at Luckley with two targeted initiatives.  The first is to develop the girls’ understanding of learning as a skill. This is of importance in that successful progression through further education and professional life relies on being able to learn effectively: hence our aim to enable Luckley girls to become resourceful and resilient learners.

Our second initiative is in the provision of Sports education. This academic year we have increased the number of hours dedicated to sport, giving our girls the opportunity to develop their skills as well as establishing the principles of a healthy and active life.

I look forward to welcoming you to Luckley-Oakfield School.

Mrs Jane Tudor
