Budding IT Entrepeneurs

We are excited to be taking part in this year’s Teen Tech Awards. The competition is for UK students from 11-16 (Years 7 to 11) working in teams of up to three to look at problems, large and small, to see if they can find a better way of doing things.  We have entered two teams, of two pupils in each, into the ‘Transport’ and ‘Food’ categories.

On Tuesday 15 January, Mr Dinos Visvikis from TRL visited the school in his capacity as a STEM ambassador, and worked with the ‘Transport team’ on their ideas for quite a radical new concept in car design. The new technology would enable the user to customise a car and enhance safety through the use of either facial recognition of mood, or heat detection of mood, possibly through a sensor on the steering wheel. Obviously it is early days and the idea is continuing to evolve!

Mrs Caroline Bennett, Head of IT said: I would like to say a big thank you to Mr Visvikis for inspiring us and giving us so many super ideas. The 2-hour session was buzzing with the four girls working with enthusiasm.”

The girls involved are Tara  and Holly, Year 8, who are the ‘Transport team’ and Amy and Jasmine, Year 10,  who are the “Food Team”, and will be supported by Reading University on their entry of a fridge app.

The ideas are still evolving and the girls are working hard on their research before they submit their final entries at the end of March.
